I previously gave Handsome Bicycles 5 stars because their service was fantastic and they were the only really good LBS in Hastings. But my last two experiences were pretty terrible (and a number of experiences before that).I took my bike in to have a look at a noisy and slipping chain when cycling uphill. I told them very specifically that if they take the bicycle for a short test ride they will very quickly notice the noise under a bit of pressure. So they cleaned the BB bearings, claimed that solved the problem. Within 3 minutes of cycling I realised the problem were not fixed and took it back and reiterated my instructions. One week later they claimed that they HAVE taken it for a test ride, couldn't really find the fault but re-cleaned the bottom bracket. Again within 3 minutes of cycling after I received the bike I realised they haven't fixed the problem. I then troubleshooted the bike myself, and within a few minutes identified a worn middle chain ring as the problem, and replaced this myself. So I have to conclude that they were either lying about the test ride, or they are just incompetent, or both.In May 2018 I took the bike in again, this time to replace the front derailleur cable, and left the bike with them for a whole week. They said they would be able to fit the cable on the Tuesday, but yet when I went to fetch the bike on a Saturday, they haven't even started.These are just two of the problems I have experienced with them, there were numerous other smaller issues (like taking 6 months to true a wheel, returning a bike misindexed and with a loose headset, etc).They used to be really good, and I really wanted to support this local bike shop, but no longer
This is a great bicycle shop. I have brought three bikes from them and find their staff knowledgeable and helpful. They really helped me with a manufacturing fault on my Ridgeback, got it sent back and repaired. Any problem, no matter how small, is taken care of. Rowan and Mike are always available with advice and support. Best bike shop in the Southeast!
Called on Handsome Cycles last Sunday afternoon on our way to Bristol having left Belgium the day before. We had sustained 2 broken rear mechs and hangers just outside Hastings. The team were great, very helpful and worked all afternoon to get us back on the road. Service was outstanding, and the cup of tea for the whole group was indicative of them going the extra mile for us. Really happy to recommend this shop and the team. Thanks again guys!PT
Very friendly, efficient and great value. Had to make an emergency stop at Handsome Bicycles during a few days touring due to a sheared gear cable. As it was a Sunday, their mechanic was not in the shop but the manager took my bike straight away, diagnosed the problem (a corroded gear shifter) and replaced it with a second-hand part they had in the workshop. They had me back on the road in less than two hours and for a very reasonable price. Really can't recommend them enough!
